Previously project engineer and site inspector for large consulting firm in the municipal and environmental fields completing major projects and design for sewers, roads, water, sewage treatment, storm water, environmental assessments. Completed over 7,000 inspections in Eastern Ontario assessing structures, mechanical systems, insulation, interior and exterior finishes, roofing, chimneys, building envelope. Numerous studies for condominium associations, structural investigations and testing work. Expert witness for construction investigations, water damage, fire damage.

Experience

Mr. Charron has served the Canadian Military both as a military and as a civilian. He graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) and also retired from the military in 1992. As a military, Mr. Charron was, among other things, part of a group investigating the environmental condition of CFB Lahr in Germany before the Canadian government was to return the land to Germany. Following his military years, Mr. Charron continued to serve the Canadian Forces as a civilian doing research in the structural engineering laboratory at RMC. During those years, he was published numerous times both as an author and a co-author in engineering publications such as The Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering. Following his findings in a research project, he was instrumental in having part of the Canadian Wood Design manual changed to better reflect the compressive properties of wood in construction.

As a member of Property Inspection Network Limited and owner of A.C.E. Building Inspection Services Inc., Mr. Charron specializes in both “Pre-purchase home inspections” and “Home energy audits”. Mr. Charron has now completed over 3,000 inspections / energy audits in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec assessing structures, mechanical systems, insulation, interior and exterior finishes, roofing, chimneys, and building envelope.

Dan is a Registered Home Inspector (RHI) - the certification granted by the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) to their members meeting all the Associations educational, experience and practical standards. He is also a Member of the American Society of Home Inspections (ASHI) having satisfied the Association's membership requirements. Dan has been actively involved in the home, property and commercial building inspection industry since 1988.

Work for various insurance companies focussed on assessment of replacement value and liability analysis. Inspections focus on assessing the structure as a whole system, roofing, chimneys, electrical and mechanical systems, insulation, exterior/interior finishes, and the general building envelope. Elements also considered are radon gas, indoor air quality, energy efficiency and electro magnetic fields.

Other experience includes project management, quality control, customer service, training, documentation, and requirements definition. In our community, Ted’s experience also includes president of cottage association, treasurer/member of board of directors for hockey association, and various roles as coach and/or official in minor hockey and baseball.

Work with Oaktree Engineering Ltd. includes reserve fund studies for condominiums, tender documents, investigative reports, structural design, general design and construction supervision.
